Bluegrass Season:

The Greenfield Restaurant in West Jefferson, offers live bluegrass and old-time music with dancing on Friday and Saturday evenings. Admission is free. This is also a campground if you are camping or want to rent a cabin. phone: 336-246-2900. http://www.greenfieldcampground.com

Other options: Mountain Music Jamboree http://www.mountainmusicjamboree.com in Glendale Springs, near Jefferson, sponsors foot-stomping fun on Friday and Saturday nights.

In Boone, the High Country Roundup http://www.hcroundup.com features dinner, a show, plus clogging and square dancing on Friday and Saturday nights.

Concerts & Jams

The Thursday night "Hog Stomp" at the Old Helton School in Lansing looks like fun. http://www.porchpickin.com/AreaPages/Helton/Helton.htm

Every Friday evening, there's a free bluegrass concert usually with cloggers, buck dancers and flatfooters on the Lawn in front of the Jones House Community Center in downtown Boone. The concert is free. http://www.watauga-arts.org/

Saturday, 3-5pm, there's a free jam outside at the Todd General Store between W. Jefferson and Boone.

Live Radio Broadcasts

Friday mornings in North Wilkesboro, WKBC 800FM broadcasts "The Hometown Opry" live starting at 7am at Minton's Music and Pawn on Main Street. http://www.geocities.com/wkbcam600/WKBC.html

On Saturday mornings beginning at 11am, WKSK 580AM, broadcasts their "Old Time and Mountain Music Show" hosted by Gary Poe. Once a month, the show comes live from the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson. http://www.porchpickin.com/RADIO/area_radio.asp
